Dusk at the Beach

June 22nd, 2010

The sun was starting to set, spreading a pink glow on the horizon.  The beach was quiet and empty after a busy almost summer day. It was me, my camera, and this catamaran, parked up by the dunes.

Booth’s Garden

June 15th, 2010

I did a shoot last evening at Gramercy Park.  It was just before dusk and the park was empty.  You could feel the history that surrounded you. Lonely, lush, and quiet – a hidden place right in the middle of the city.

What a cloud!

June 8th, 2010

We had a tornado alert in New York City on Sunday, which is most unusual.  Never got really dangerous, but we did get high winds and some awesome clouds.  Take a look at this cloud near the Empire State Building.  The color is true and there was no post production work done on this photo.

Exhibit on the Roof of the Met

June 1st, 2010

Happy June!  If you’re in New York, try to get to the Met Museum for the Doug and Mike Starn exhibit on the roof.  It’s really unusual and affords you a view of the city that is quite unexpected.

Up the Hudson

May 24th, 2010

I took the metro north train up the Hudson to Tarrytown to get some images of the Tappan Zee bridge (see Iconic New York, Color).  It was so picturesque.  There was a little lighthouse (see People and Places), sailboats, very few people.  Until I happened upon these two guys fishing.  I think it was the straw hat that made me think of Tom and Huck.

Dumbo

May 17th, 2010

I was in Dumbo for The New York Photo Festival last week.

The views from there are great and every time I’m there I see something else. (For all you out-of-towners, Dumbo’s a hot new neighborhood in Brooklyn between the Manhattan and Brooklyn bridges).  The shot that’s the home page for my website came from there.

Here’s a shot of an abandoned warehouse.

Times Square at Night

May 12th, 2010

Shoot last night with a friend in Times Square. What an experience!  I’ve never just stood still there -I’m usually pushing through the crowds to get to the theater.  So many people, so many languages being spoken. As a lifelong New Yorker, there was a time when I would have been afraid of being mugged.  Now I was afraid of being trampled by the tons of tourists!  It definitely gave me a new perspective on the “crossroads of the world”.  It was very entertaining and I got some great photos!

Welcome to Ellen Goodman Photography!
