Now I know where Ms Liberty’s torch store is! What a lovely selection.. If only she could get there! ; )

  2. Jan says:

I love how this photo dwarfs Lady Liberty. Another great perspective shot by Ellen!

  3. Simone says:

Wow, what a great shot! I love the very modern form in the foreground and how it’s echoed by a classic in the background, both reaching up to the heavens. Well captured, as always.

My first impression was that this was a monument on an alien world, but realized that it would be too far to travel for an Ellen Goodman photo shoot. Only then, did I see tiny Lady Liberty, and the shot made total sense. Great perspective, Ellen, and a unique image!

Echoing some of the prior comments, very interesting images / perspectives, and forms

  6. Geff says:

Wow, that is really amzing imagery!

  7. Bernice says:

The foreground sculpture reminds me of a giant Brancusi – a humorous contrast with the teeny weeny Statue of Liberty in the background – which is usually the star of the show.

  8. Rae says:

My initial reaction was “Brancusi! What’s he doing there?” And then I realized what was really going on!

The color in this image is great, as well. It’s so calming and serene that it really helps me take in this perspective.

    Thanks for the view, Ellen!

Actually there are two works, Pylons by Martin Puryear, 1995. The juxtaposition of the two pieces with the Statue of Liberty intrigued me. Also, memorably, when you turn around from seeing the Pylons and the Statue you see the new 1 World Trade Center. And one can’t help but remember the two towers which stood there when these two pylons were put in place.
