Never Forget…God Bless America!
I love the memorial lights here in parallel with other building lights, such a NYC trademark. Thank you for taking this shot and helping us to remember.
It was so nice to wake up to this photograph. This day 13 years ago I was on the Cross Island Expressway when Tom Kaminski in in traffic helicopter announced that a plane had hit the North Tower. By the time I got up to the Whitestone Bridge, the building was, of course, burning. Off to my left was a plane that didn’t belong there. (One of my commuting games was to track planes as they landed at LaGuardia.) I had just gotten over the bridge when they announced that another plane had hit the South Tower. I was so distracted I got lost on the way to work.
Today, I am finishing an abstract painting of the memorial in the place of the South Tower. I will sign it before the day is over. The painting is based on a wonderful photograph that my daughter, Erin, took when we were in NYC last February with her three daughters.
The lights have such a dramatic effect, reaching up into the heavens. A day we must always remember, but would like to forget. Thanks for the image, Ellen.
A beautiful remembrance of an awful, awful day–
We must remember 9/11/01 and your photo reminds us what happened on that tragic day!
