Nice angle and reflection of the Flat Iron Building. Oh, Now I see that’s what you named it!

I NEVER get tired of looking at pictures of the Flatiron Building. It seems that no matter from what angle, every photograph shows something new, something unexpected, something puzzling. You’ve managed to capture the historical aspect of a very peculiar architectural form, juxtaposed with a very modern sensibility. Iconic New York indeed!

Great photo of the flat iron building and the reflection of it. The double height makes it appear even flatter. Makes one wonder……. where do they ever find the flat people to be in the flat building? ; )

Although more evident in the top part of the image, the bare trees in the reflection seem to embrace the Flatiron building – an interesting effect. I imagine a similar puddle of water in 1902, when the building first opened, looking much the same as it does today.

Just remember, puddles are a photographer’s friend! Beautiful and timeless.

Lovely reflecion in the puddle. And may the puddle be a small sign of spring, too. You’ve done a great job of capturing this wild winter in the city and I’m looking forward to your images of the emegence of spring.

I love the feel of the picture. It almost looks like a blue filter was used yet the warmth of the incandescent lights comes through. Sure feels like winter.

  8. Simone says:

Beautiful shot! I love the angles and lines of the building and reflected again in the water – much like the lines of the two people on the path. Well done!

I think one of the most interesting aspects of this image is the incredibly accentuated perspective. The lines created by the buildings and the lane itself move to the right of the image, creating drama that at first seems to be missing in the still photo. Somehow, the drama and movement in this very wintery feeling photo remind me that spring is on the way. The snow melts and helps to create beautiful images of the city that reflect why it’s so great to be here during any season.

    Thanks for sharing, Ellen!

Another beautiful composition: the central path leading back to the sharply angled contours of the Flatiron, which are reflected in the puddle leading back again to the viewer. And the evening lights glitter like jewels.

Beautiful photograph. A modern take on the famous Edward Steichen Flatiron shot. Well done!

  12. Anne says:

Ellen, you do reflections so well, especially of the Flatiron Building. Keep them coming!
