Signs of the Time

I’ve always photographed signs.  Iconic, ironic, unusual, surprising – always interesting.  Here’s a photo I took this weekend at the beach where they are working on a sand replenishment project:

So clever! I love this week’s photo for the same reason I love your changing exhibition – you manage to see a sign and how it fits into its environment in a tongue-in-cheek fashion. I love Project Starts Here with the construction. Each sign can be a commentary to its surroundings. Well done!

Whimsical photograph this week, Ellen, is so funny! I like many of the changing exhibition photos. “Welcome” is so dramatic, and others like “Dead End” made me laugh. Well done, again!

  3. Marty says:

I love this exhibit! So creative and well thought out.

How whimsical! It brings a smile to my face as I look out the window at six inches of new snow here in Fairfax. My favorite pic in the signs collection is the NO PARKING sign partially buried in a ton of snow! I like irony.

I love the “watch out for moving equipment” and then the little toddler toy, not only a toddler toy, but as girlie as can be in pink! Instead of being fearful of the moving equipment it made me really chuckle!

  6. Bernice says:

Cute little pink moving equipment to watch out for. Nice composition and sly wit.

  7. Jan says:

I thoroughly enjoyed the humor in the “…Moving Equipment” photo. Thanks for putting the smile on my face this morning.

This photo is really funny, but it’s also a great composition. The pale backdrop of the sandy beach makes the color in the forefront really pop. The orange tape really makes it look like an abstracted painting of some kind and the lines add some direction and dimension to the landscape.

    Good one, Ellen!
