Fact…or fiction, Ellen? What a fascinating photograph. Shadows? Silhouettes? Clearly a dramatic shot that tells a story. I know the answer, but won’t reveal yet!
So the answer to the question “Do you?” is what no one guessed. This is not a photograph of the shadow of a praying mantis, but one of the insect itself and the flowers surrounding it. The only difference is, I focused the camera on the flowers to the left, rather than on the insect. The very next shot I took is of the mantis in focus, and the flowers softly blurred. It’s all about what you choose to focus on. A lesson, not only in photography, but in life!

Such a pretty picture of a truly terrifying insect!
Cool blog….I really like Lazy Day, Prospect Park!
Great photo. Is the insect reflected in the water? Love the contrasts of color and depth in this shot.
WOW! And here the mantes thought it had that camouflage thing going great – but couldn’t fool this photographer’s eye after-all!
So awesome! I love the contrast between crisp colorful flowers and the shadow of the mantis. Well done!
You captured the fragility of nature. Mystical!
What a great shot and optical illusion! I can only imagine what this beautiful puzzle really is. 🙂
