WOW! I love the delicious layers of this photo – the crash of the waves/rocks, the crest of the next wave, the water/sailboat, and the sky. An instant Ellen-by-the-Shore classic!
This photo hints at how treacherous, and yet inviting, the ocean can be.
Nice black and white study! The lack of color brings the focus into the motion: the contrast of the northern calm and the southern choppiness – juxtaposed so near each other – quite amazing!
I feel as though Turner could have based one of his dramatic seascapes off this photo. And the juxtaposition of smooth sailing vs. the foreground of crashing waves is breathtaking. One of my favorites!
I like it, Ellen! I see two worlds – one above the water, and one below. The dark wave about to form is the dividing line, calm above and crashing below.
Layers of grey lead the eye from turmoil to smooth sailing. Lovely composition.
Contrast in shades of gray really highlight depth & dimension. Would look great in my den!
This is actually a color photograph. There’s green in the waves, and some blue in the sky. But many shades of gray for sure.
