I adore this photo! It reminds me of an old mining town or a ghost town. I especially like the lines and curves – of the grass, of the arsenal buildings. Haunting and beautiful, especially in black and white. Well done!

A striking image depicting our government’s failure to utilize a long abandoned site in order to provide our citizens with what could be a shoreline / waterfront wonderland for so many to enjoy.

Great shot, Ellen! There is an eerie quality to the photograph. I can picture soldiers manning the battlements!

  4. Anne says:

    Eerie. Lonely. Abandoned.

  5. Bernice says:

The curving road leads the eye back so well to the long row of abandoned buildings with the dark square openings and empty roofline. The weedy field only emphasizes the sense of isolation. Good subject for a black and white shot.

This black and white photo conjures up a sense of yesteryear, with low tech and innocence.

  7. Bevy says:

Now, that’s scary when a grassy wave of nature, not only takes over the man made structure, but wipes out the sea as well. Where’s the water?

The water is still there, behind the old munitions buildings. In fact, on a clear day you can see Coney Island and the Verrazano Bridge from this location.
