I was so thrilled to see some of my favorite shots of yours with people – Highline Contemplation was one of the first people photos of yours that I fell for. Umbrella in the Snow and Graveyard Visitors still stand out for me as well. And I love Skater; you caught a moment in time! What an awesome exhibition. So very well done.

You’ve captured the sad chaos of the homeless and made it colorful and amusing. The sylvan setting only adds to the irony of the message on his shopping bag. The collection of people shots is a real pleasure – lots of wit and sweetness in the observations.

So sad. Amazing how one picture can say so much. Well done.

What an interesting shot, Ellen! At first glance, a shopping cart ran into someone, and the contents got thrown on top of the “pedestrian.” As I looked closer, the reality TV star was revealed. I can’t begin to pick a favorite in the changing exhibition – I like them all. Each one tells its own story. You have captured people of NY on the full spectrum!

This photo captures so many emotions in a single take. Living in New York, we see this image everyday and hardly bat an eye. But what you’ve done here, Ellen, is capture sadness and remorse, while still letting some of your playful eye catch bits like the “Reality Star” bag. This playful eye, I believe, allows this photo to be seen and understood without feeling overwhelming at the sight of such misfortune.

What a wonderful collection and what a great shot of a reality star!

I had a great time at your latest exhibition — I browsed through the photos you took in and around New York and it was very interesting; great variety, and some really exciting shots.

Enjoyed your People of NY Exhibition! You captured such a wide range of people all experiencing NY in different ways. As to the picture above, wow, you really have to wonder if that person is OK! Hope so. Yet another example of the NY experience. Good job catching photo moments!

I loved the People of New York Exhibition–some of my favorites are Ballet (with the 4 adorable dogs), Behind the Curtain, Umbrella in the Snow (exquisite!), Father and Son, Speech, Girl with the Jar (where WAS this?), Couple (reminds me of the last photo in The Family of Man), Thru the Arch, Zahftig, Posture (Giacometti sculpture?), and Wizard. You have an incredible eye for content and composition–as well as a great sense of humor! I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Thank you everyone for your kind words about the Changing Exhibition. Jacqueline, Girl With The Jar was taken on Broadway and Wall Street! I was doing a Wall Street shoot, and turned the corner and was face to face with the girl and the cow. They were filming an advertisement. But that is why I try to always have my camera within reach. You never know what you’re going to see, especially in NYC!
