Catch a wave…

I love the motion in this photo – between the waves, the birds, and the boats. Oddly, the waves could almost look still, like small mountains. An interesting shot. Well done!

Great title, Ellen :o) I agree with Simone – mountains of water, and I love the reflections in the tide pool for the birds, as well.

The perspective and the contrast in textures make this photo very interesting and very unusual.

Do you think the single bird is eyeing the rest of the group and wondering if pickins’ are better two waves down?

At first glance, this photo looks somewhat mournful and sad. Powerful waves crashing on a shoreline empty of all but a few birds – and one is all alone. A nice composition, but not one that inspires joy.

It’s actually a more upbeat photo than it might look. There are as many fishing boats in the back of the image as seagulls up front. Remember the website compresses the file and you lose some detail and the true color. This isn’t a black and white shot either. The waves have a lot of green in them, the sand is beige. It was early morning at the beach and I was shooting towards the sun so the colors are more muted.
