Wow, so unexpected! The swirls amidst the geometric blocks of the city are so unusual – they almost reflect the swirls of clouds overhead. Very interesting photo, well done!

Auntie Em, it’s a twister – on Park Avenue! What a cool shot, Ellen. The sculpture looks as tall as the buildings, and I love the greys and browns of everything against the white and blue sky above.

Wonderful composition and perspective. Inspires discussion. Well done, Ellen!

  4. Debbie says:

It looks like the sculpture is saluting the clouds- I agree!

Makes me think of buttoned up adults looking down on a irrepressibly playful child.

Fast swirling New York – couldn’t be captured better by both sculptor and photographer! The angle of your shot makes the artwork appear like one of those sci-fi creatures about to take over the city! Very dramatic!!

This shot captures the beauty of this city so well. The swirling sculpture at first seems out of place with the strong architecture looming overhead, but upon closer inspection (aided by the thoughtful angle at which the photo was taken) it depicts the hustle and bustle of the city. A dancer on the streets of Broadway. A director waving his baton in front of the orchestra at Lincoln Center. Even the buskers in the subway stations. This photo captures so eloquently the movement of the city.

    Yet again, great job, Ellen!

Baroque swirls vs. Classical geometry. What a wonderful composition and play of angles against curves. Beautiful palette too.

  9. Bev says:

Totally amazing angle! What contortions did you have to go through to get it…. FANTASTIC!!!!!!

I saw these sculptures and I hoped that you would get a chance to photograph them. They are really intricate and should be a challenge to you. How do I see the set?

They are beautiful, and challenging to photograph. I’d be happy to send you some of the other shots I took. Thanks.

  12. Shirley says:

Thanks, I really enjoyed the photos you sent, especially because I saw the sculptures briefly as I was riding down Park Ave. Your pictures gave me an opportunity to see them more closely. I especially love the ones which relate the sculpture to the setting. I was impressed with the sculptures and with your photographs.

Beautiful perspective! I love the composition. Also the colors and tones of the sculpture and buildings against the clouds. Really lovely photograph.
