Having lived my entire life on Long Island, for me, this photo captures the essence of fall near the beach. I can sense the sand, the sound of the crashing waves, and the smell of salt water and drying foliage.

    Autumn at the beach…

The fading colors are still so subtle and beautiful. I like the lines here – the rows of trees, the rows of grass in front of the trees, and even stripes of clouds in the sky. Lovely.

An interesting photo, if you look beyond the first impression of a landscape going to sleep for the winter. Autumn brings beautiful color in its leaves, and when it is all over, the evergreens dominate. The foreground has color, and the trees of winter are in the background – almost like a visual timeline.

Lovely photo. Brings to mind the NY Times Essayist, Verlyn Klinkenborg: “I’ve been thinking about the way autumn has stolen upon us. When the first leaves turn-a roadside maple in August-it’s easy to ignore the incoming season. But now all the trees are turning in concert, rushing to a foregone conclusion. I’m struck by how silently it happens….Only the wind makes them speak.”

I love his short essays Bevy. I am honored to have my photograph compared to his beautiful words.

Wonderful depth of field, like a Hudson school painting. Nice shot and beautiful colors!

The colors of fall lead the eye back to the lonely bare tree of winter. Lovely, melancholic mood.

As I read this photo, my eye scans from left to right, and with every inch, I become more hopeful. It is a bit melancholy, but in the best way. It makes me think of home and family and growing up in the middle of all these changing colors. My lasting impression is with the pine on the right. It leads to the sky, creating an uplifting feeling that only reinforces my hopefulness for the future.

I love the subtle contrast on colors and how the muted shades make the orange and blue feel more vibrant against them.
