Feeling a short story somewhere in that lighthouse. Beautiful composition, Ellen.
Another wonderfully composed shot in black and white. I love the cylindrical light house centered on the low arc of the bridge, and the curve of the little island that reverses the curve of the bridge.
Classic Ellen, love the balance of the lighthouse between the two peaks of the Tappan Zee, as well as the angle on the left of the grassy hill. As always, stunning. Well done!
Very serene Black and White, with the still waters and cloud filled sky. And, Love my 2013 Calendar!!!
Lighting the way for travelers
When it’s dark and late
Safely connecting them ‘tween NYC
And the world Upstate…….
This feels almost like a charcoal drawing. So painterly and well composed. Another classic and majestic shot. 🙂
Wow! I never saw that lighthouse. Glad you caught it on “film” LOL! What’s film, anyhow!
Nice shot! I particularly like the diagonal steel members on the small bridge, as it echoes the large bridge steel. And let’s all look closely through the little bridge to see the Manhattan skyline in the distance! Well done,Ellen.
This photo brings back fond memories. Just to the left out of the field of view is the now defunct GM plant. My mom used to take us here for swimming and bbq. I don’t think they let you swim there anymore. The water here in the Hudson always had a funny taste to it. It was probably the PCBs from the GE transformer plant further up the Hudson. I used pretend I was Loyd Bridges from Sea Hunt – a favorite show of mine at this time, about 1960. Did you stop at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery? It was just on your right on Rt. 9 where you make the left into the village. Or did you take the train? I use to ride my bike from Yonkers to the cemetery and play in the stream under a bridge in the cemetery. I like the balance in the photo and that it is taken in black and white.
Makes me feel nostalgic about our visit in Tarrytown. It’s a good shot for fall because no matter what the temperature was when the shot was taken, it has a very cool feeling to it due to the water and being in black and white and various shades of grays.
Thanks everyone for your comments, your poems, and your memories that this photo called to mind.
