The Mad Hatter

Ellen, you are in the perfect city to find subjects for your photos. I like that you took your shot from behind. It preserves this person’s privacy while making his hat seem even more “mad”. Including the other gentleman in the shot reveals their blazé attitude about it all. Your photo leaves us wondering what this hatter’s thought process was when he created his bizarre chapeau. One has to give him points for creativity, though.

I love this photo! And I have so many questions about what we’re seeing here! But also the line of the building divides these figures up nicely. The man in sweats reminds me of a statue. Great capture!

    So typical of NYC:
Everywhere else people would be staring in awe
But in NY, its like “eh, I’ve seen weirder stuff before!”

What a unique on-the-street catch, Ellen! Aside from the main subject’s “hat” which (begs so many questions), I also like the other two people in the photograph, differing in size and looking like they posed just for you. Well done!

Only in NY can someone wear a hat like this and other people act as if it’s completely normal! I would have loved to see him in one of the white dresses in the window to go with that hat!

As Christian Dior said, “Without hats there is no civilization.” I’m not sure what this hat says about us–perhaps we’re all going a little mad! Great catch!

    Only in NY!
