Behind the Sign

I stood in this spot in 2010 to photograph the sign and the city beyond. http://www.ellengoodmanphotography.com/new-york-color/nggallery/image/3214. It was a construction site then; now it’s a waterfront park and residential towers and it’s impossible to get the same shot. I do love documenting my ever changing city.

I love to see the medieval look of this image – it looks almost like battlements to protect a 15th-century castle! We think of New York as a fixed sky-line, but no.

    With all it’s new adaptations
    NYC is a trend setter.
    It’s particularly wonderful
When the changes are for the better!

What a difference 14 years can make! It must be satisfying to capture a piece of NYC’s history. Nicely done!

What a great perspective here, Ellen! I remember your original photograph taken from farther back, and the new photograph adds a while new dimension by being close up to the large sign as it towers over the smaller Manhattan skyline in the distance. Well done!

Another beautiful iconic shot! Love the one from 2014, but also love that you were able to get back to (almost) the same spot for an update.

A beautiful and interesting photograph. A microcosm of life. Everything changes. Nothing stays the same. As usual a wonderful photo with a story.
