The photo really captures holiday time on the streets with the hustle bustle of the people as the giant wooden soldiers stand tall, stiff and motionless overlooking the frenzy.
Definitely a cool photo capture here, Ellen! Holiday, winter and the frenetic pace of New Yorkers all combined into one image. Well done!
So often, photographic contrast is in color. But in this case, it is in motion. The stilled focus of the statues entirely brings out the blurred busy pedestrians. Great photography!

I love how still the Nutcrackers feel, especially in comparison to the constant motion and blur of the passers-by. Such a great shot!
Nice contrast between the motion of the shoppers and the stillness of the wooden soldiers behind them. The colors and motion are so evocative of New York in December!
