Nice challenging request and cool photo, Ellen! I am working on it. Lets see if others guess first! Well done.
Great shot of this unique skyline, especially since the building on the left is much older than the others. If only I could name the buildings 🙂 I also love the way the clouds are on a slant that almost mirrors the heights of the buildings.
The one one the left is the Met Life Building (“eyelash building”). The one in the middle is the previously financially troubled skinny box tower on Madison Sq. Park, that’s an eyesore in the neighborhood. The third is 1 World Trade Center.
Nice shot of the different periods and styles of NYC architecture, as well as the close juxtaposition of different economic classes in our city.
You got two right Bernice. Not 1 WTC. Anyone else?
Would it be, from left to right:
Metropolitan Life Tower, One Madison Park, and Metropolitan Life Tower?
So true what Bernice said – great shot of different periods of architectural style.
Oops, I meant, left to right,Metropolitan Life Tower, One Madison, and Madison Square Park Tower?
Yes Bevy, you are right about those three. But this was a bit of a trick question. There’s another famous icon hiding in this photo. Anyone see it?
Such an interesting juxtaposition of different styles and ages of iconic NYC buildings!
I see it in the front, is it the Post Office?
Based on your love of New York architecture, I assume it is either the tiny fragment of the classical building at the left corner, or the long straight piece in the center. It’s obviously looking south, so the only other landmark I can think of is the Flatiron building – but that’s famous for its shape, which I can’t see here? Great juxtaposition, in any case.
Yes! That horizontal beige element in the center of the photograph is the western side of the Flatiron Building, the tip of which would be on the left of the slab. I was standing on the roof of a building on West 23rd Street looking east and was delighted when I realized that I could see the top part of the Flatiron.
Don’t actually know what the building in front is Jan, but it appears to be residential.
I just love this. It reminds me of an Edward Hopper painting.
