I am going to go with Georges Seurat – A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte is the feel I get from this photo, not just for the positioning of the subject but for the light exposure that gives it the impressionist feeling. Great photograph, Ellen.
I love the pastel colors–I was also thinking of impressionist masters (Renoir, Seurat) before I read other people’s comments. This photo perfectly captures that feel.
God, I love this photo. I had to google Renoir for “Figures on the Beach,” but it reminds me of it. I agree with Seurat too. Looks like a painting brought to life – timeless. Perfection.
The hat brings a Homer painting to my mind, in addition to the other references already mentioned. Wonderful composition, colors, and mood. It epitomizes summer serenity and sunlight.
This looks like a modern take on an impressionist painting. Renoir, maybe?

Timeless beach scene. Perfectly captured. Great pic
Charming. I agree with Michelle. Hat looks like a work of Mary Cassatt.

Thanks everyone for your comments. For me it was all about the light of a summer morning, and the line of the umbrella, the hat, and the blanket.
