Very moving. Reminds me of the photos of crosses on the grave sites of fallen soldiers in Normandy. The emptiness is overwhelming.

An endless sea of chairs trailing out to infinity. This touching photograph echoes the emptiness we all feel and how it never goes away, only gets smaller as time passes in the distance. I visited Bryant Park this morning and watched a worker disassembling the exhibit. I wanted to stop him from taking away this moving sight. It was if he was removing the people themselves.

These chairs are an overwhelming reminder of the terrible events of that day.
I wish you could have gotten more of them in your shot. The rows intimate that they go on to infinity, however, and the lone flowers add to the powerful mood of sadness.

Thank you Bernice. I wish I had a wide angle lens so I could have gotten all of the chairs. Suffice it to say that the entire lawn area of Bryant Park was filled with rows of empty, except for the flowers, chairs.

  5. Jeff says:

    Great shot and much meaning!!

This photo of just a few chairs is so moving. I can’t imagine what it must have been like to see all of them. I’m glad you included the chair with the flower on it. That makes it all the more poignant.
