Beautiful! If Cape May wanted to create a flag to represent itself, it should use your photo: the sea, the sand, the surf, the sun and the seagull; all in simplicity of shapes.

Amazing photograph, Ellen! The bands of light and dark in the foreground are so dramatic. and catching the seagull in mid flight is masterful. Such a peaceful image.

From afar, this photo reminds me of a Rothko painting–the seemingly solid strips of color are so meditative and reflective. And I love that it’s a sunset which makes this connection feel even better in my mind, as it brings together two calming images. What a great shot, Ellen!

  4. Emily says:

Absolutely love this photo – the layers, the sunset. Just a perfect shot.

  5. Simone says:

I am in LOVE with this photo! I immediately thought of Rothko, and I love the segments of color that divide the picture into horizontal shades. The seagull and the sunset are like a bonus for the eyes when they reach the top of the image. Beautiful.

  6. Bernice says:

Rothko would love this shot as much as I do. The horizontal bands of color and glowing disk function so well as elements of an abstract painting. But it’s also a beautifully composed sunset on the beach. Well done!

    I love this shot. Serene.

My first thought was the resemblance to a Rothko painting–but others beat me to it! Simply beautiful!
