Little Red

“Your light is so bright that I thought mine was needed no more,” (said) the lighthouse.

“I call to the airplanes,” says the bridge.  “But you are still master of the river.”   “Quick, let your light shine again.  Each to his own place, little brother!”

The Little Red Lighthouse and the Great Grey Bridge – classic! Squint and it’s a perfect Charles Sheeler painting. Just beautiful.

Never underestimate the power of “Little Red”! Do you remember the children’s book about The Little Red Caboose? With his mantra “I think I can I think I can….”that he remarkably propelled the train up the hill with shear willpower! Gotta respect “Little Red” objects!

Where is this lighthouse? Where there is a lighthouse, there is an ocean, and I just love seeing lighthouses and dramatic shorelines!

Great shot. I crane my neck every time we drive down the west side highway but have never been able to see Little Red. Thanks for such a beautiful view.

Perfect shot of this beautiful lighthouse – you even got the sailboat going by! I love the angle the bridge makes with the lighthouse. Mimics the angle of the sail 🙂 Truly wonderful.

For something so “Little” this lighthouse takes charge of the photo and looks so large! I love how the sailboat and lighthouse create such a fascinating perspective, making each object seem opposite their respective sizes. What a beautiful, clear sky, as well.

    Great shot, Ellen!

You’ve captured another Iconic New York image, and done it brilliantly!
This has always been a favorite view of my clients in Washington Heights.
Your angle is perfect, and the tiny sailboat magical!

I LOVE THE TRIANGULATIONS IN THE PHOTO TOPPED OFF WITH THE SAIL OF THE SAIL BOAT. I USED TO READ THE LITTLE RED LIGHTHOUSE TO MY CHILDREN.

Thanks everyone. I’ve been searching for this lighthouse for years, and like Joann, have never been able to see it. You have to go to Riverside Drive and 181st Street and take a pedestrian bridge over the highway. Then it’s about a half mile walk down a pretty steep, windy path. Not easy to get to, but soooo worth it!!
