Just spent an amazing, if hot as heck, week in Washington DC. Got some wonderful photos of the major monuments and government buildings, which will appear shortly on a new portfolio page. Here’s a shot of the one and only Uncle Sam.

Uncle Sam, like the rest of America, looks hot and bloated. Maybe he needs the same kind of drastic diet as the budget is getting. Perfect symbol for the US of A today.
An interesting photograph, Ellen! Uncle Sam seems to be sitting and waiting in the heat (as is all of Washington,DC), the reflecting pool as empty of water as the government is of money.
That’s a such a great shot for what I find to be such an interesting reason – ‘Uncle Sam’ is so representative of our government – grossly overweight and bloated.
I don’t know how you get these marvelous shots! I look at it much differently than your other fans. I think Uncle Sam loves his country. My grandaughter and I were delighted to see you on your Washington photo trip!
I love this photo for the composition of the vertical walking stick mimicking the vertical monument, and the curving shadow of Uncle Sam mimicking the silhouetted trees. The shot looks vast and very well balanced.

I notice Uncle Sam has a walking stick, symbolic of the “Limping of America” these days.
Who/what is the true icon in this photo? I love this shot! Well done, as always, Ellen.
