Silhouette

I went out shooting with a couple of my photography buddies and we spent the evening working on silhouettes.  I find I learn more from my fellow photographers than from any class.  And as a teacher I once had, many many years ago, famously said “How do you get to Carnegie Hall?  Practice, practice, practice”. (Actually he said by subway, but that’s a story for another day.)

This shot was taken from the Staten Island Ferry as the sun was going down behind the Statue of Liberty.  Thank you Michelle and Lourdes!

Ellen – that’s a stunning image, and unlike any other I have seen of the lady. Find the right context and it’s a best seller.

This one is one of my favorite silhouettes of yours. I love the way you’ve captured the sunlight directly behind the statue. The whole image looks completely magical!

Leaves one with the feeling of quietude and nostalgia realizing a day is in the moment of passing as the permanent majesty of the statue assures us of new days to dawn. Extremely expressive.

Absolutely stunning. Magnificient halo around Lady Liberty and a truly Turner-esque sky. Your timing was impeccable in capturing the perfect sunset at the perfect moment, in the perfect place. Your best yet.

Thank you everyone for your kind comments about this shot. You have made it my most popular blog photo yet! (And remember, prints are for sale at all sizes up to 40×30″.)

Seeing this photo took my breath away; each part is striking. The best part of all is how the setting sun emphasizes the silhouette of the statue. A few months ago I searched the Internet for photos of the Statue of Liberty to use as reference for a drawing I was doing. I think this is better than any of them.

    This is out-of-sight gorgeous!
