Wow, I love how this could be so many moments in history! And the way the clock almost rises above the clouds, as if to say that time is the ultimate power. Great lines as well (the mirroring lampposts, the lines of clouds, the boardwalk pointing toward the horizon). Well done!
What a cool shot, Ellen! The tilted clock face is so eerie – almost like there was a boardwalk, and this clock was transported there from the past. Maybe there is significance in the clockface tilt direction – counter clockwise – backward in time…
This is your Di Chirico moment. The surrealistic scene with the centrally located clock looming over a desolate landscape of telephone poles and distant tower is enhanced by the horizontal array of clouds below a blue sky. Eerie!
I love that Di Chirico reference! I can really see it in the shadows on the ground and the lines created by the poles and buildings. You’ve really made this photo feel metaphysical and surreal, Ellen.
And the lighting helps to create this really warm and quiet mood. What a great shot!
So, as in song “where did all the (people) go, long time passing…” And why are the clock hands still while the face is turning? And is this a dream, Dorothy?
I absolutely love the coloring of entire photo. It’s as if an artist chose a specific color scheme. The grayish clouds seem to blend with the color of the clock stand and the walkway. The white clouds with the white lamp posts on the walk – and all the background in kind of those neutral rusts and tans to go with the olive clock all imposed on the only true color – the blue of the sky. It’s as if time is imposing itself on our world.
Wow, thank you all. I am honored to be compared to some pretty awesome artists. Truth is, the boardwalk was deserted, the clock was tilted in its frame, but still telling time, the sky was an amazing blue, the clouds were puffy and beautiful, and it all made for a really cool photo!

Magritte comes to mind also, blended with N. C. Wyeth!
Serene and yet haunting. Amazing depth. Looks like it goes on forever. One could get lost in it. Great job!
