What an impressively striking image, the gritty contrast which reminds me so of one of the early 1900’s Photo-Secessionist photographs by Steichen. It also has the scratchy, linear feel of an etching, or a rare sand-paper print. Just beautiful!

    It’s so deserted, it’s hard to believe that’s NYC – 3rd Ave.
You can almost feel the granular etching.

The photo almost devoid of people and things creates a look in New York City of an empty vastness more likely of a bygone era. The etching of the grainy snow adds vertical and horizontal lines of interest, further giving the space a look of emptiness. I think I hear the echoey silence. Wonderful photo!

Even in this cold and desolate landscape (beautifully depicted), a dog must be walked. If it wasn’t for my dog, I wouldn’t have left the house for days!

Such a different photo from last week! Beautiful and desolate, I love the title because it does look like an etching.

What a fascinating photo, Ellen! My eye sees the scratch marks of a black and white etching, and then are suddenly drawn to the red and yellow of the taxi at the top of the image. Meanwhile, the man and dog appear as shadows crossing the street. Well done!

So spartan – with just a touch of color. And the tracks etched in the snow add to the starkness.
