    You know what I saw?
This guy feeling so cold and raw
That all he could think about was
    “Waiting for the thaw!

What an interesting photograph, Ellen! You definitely found a unique visual to share with us. The image almost looks like separate photographs, and the ice floe looked like a cloud in a blue sky before I fully understood the perspective. Well done!

At first I thought it was two separate photos. Interesting perspective. Statue waiting for the thaw, so it too, could come back together.

Looks like he’s taking shelter facing away from the icy waters, while ‘waiting for the thaw’.

I absolutely LOVE this photo!!! It took me a second glance to realize they’re not two photos but a single photo. And I’d love to learn the meaning of the statue and what he might’ve been doing there. You have an excellent eye!

I too thought it was two photos. I was surprised that it was one. It certainly is interesting. You do have an uncanny way of finding them. Don’t know how you do it. Wonderful catch!

Having done some research since I took this photo over the weekend, I think the statue is of Guanyin, the Bodhisattva (enlightened being) of Compassion. This is based on the necklace, garment design, and the tranquility of the face with closed eyes. Without the arms, and in such disrepair, I can’t be sure, but that’s my guess. Why it was sitting under a walkway by the side of the river, I can’t even begin to speculate!

Like others, I also thought there were 2 separate pictures. I love photos like this that challenge you to see things in an entirely new way. Brava!
