Love the boy “mimicking” the statue, but wish it were in color.
Does anyone see what I see – a Mom camouflaged next to the little boy? I like the texture of the wall against the smooth statue. Thanks, Ellen!
How cinematic! It feels like a still from a Fellini movie. Love it.
Wow, I totally missed the Mom next to the little boy that Bruce saw. I feel like I am probably also missing a whole bunch of other things in this artistic soup…am I?
Love the various natural textures and shapes, a beautiful photo!
Great shot. I agree with Bernice: I’d like to see this in color.
Sorry, but I disagree. I think it is precisely the chiaroscuro that makes this photograph work. Color would completely distract from the texture of the wall, and it would be almost a cheap shot – a cheap snap-shot. I’m reminded of Fenton’s C19 photographs of the Crimea, which use light and shadow to greatest effect. I do think if one could see the image full-screen it would be much more powerful.
I do feel strongly about the use of black and white in this photo. In color, you would have seen the colors of the little boy’s striped shirt as well as his mother, who is here camouflaged in the tree. What I like about it is the play of the textures – the pebbles in the ground, the rocky wall (all reminiscent of Fenton, although a lot easier for this photographer to document!) against the classical stance and texture of the sculpture, as well as the shadows in the foreground, the middle ground, and at the rear, right.
Thank you all for your comments and on-going support of my work.
