What a great timeless photo, Ellen! Feels like the corridor in a palace far, far away. Well done!

    The proud Colonnade of pillars
Ceremoniously standing as if for a king to anoint
    Until they nearly diminish
    To a vanishing point…..

Beautiful use of b/w editing. The perspective is spot-on, and looks like it could be in the Alhambra! (I suspect The Cloisters?)

Ah, this is so beautiful! It feels endless and timeless all at once. Love the shapes of the shadows and the sun between the columns. Almost ancient.

  5. Jacqueline says:

It’s beautiful the way the sun shines through and creates the pattern on the ground, complete with the shadows of the leaves. Lovely!

  6. Jan says:

I especially love the crisp clarity of the ground portion of this photo.

I love black and white photos and you do capture them so well. The shadows create such interesting drama often missing from color photographs.
The columns lining the walkway look like they are from the Cloisters that I used to visit many years ago when I was a child. That was the first thing that hit me when I saw the photograph. I haven’t thought about the Cloisters in years and it brought me back to my childhood. Thank you for the beautiful photo and memories.

Thank you Carolyn. I used to go there with my family when I was a girl also. It’s amazing to find some place that hasn’t changed in all these years. Brings back good memories for me too.

Ellen, your decision to take this photo in B&W was inspired. As soon as my eyes captured the scene, I was immediately transported back to the arched aqueducts of Rome. This was thanks to the B&W which had added the look of extreme age, sun-baked stones and dust. As I continued to gaze, the scene morphed into a 12th century monastery with my robed and sandaled self walking down the colonnade in silent meditation. In a flash, I was back in the present looking at a photo of the Cloisters thinking, “Who says time time travel isn’t possible?”
