What building is this? Looks amazing, Ellen!
The Zakim Bridge was named after my neighbor’s son, Lenny, who died of multiple myeloma after a career as an activist for Jewish and democratic causes in Boston. I don’t know what the new building is that’s going up, but the skyline has been magically transformed by the sailboat-like bridge.
Is that a sculpture, a bridge support? Art and/or function?
Bernice – I had no idea. It’s a beautiful, magical work of art floating over the city. Very hard to photograph though because of the buildings and other bridges all around it. I made getting a good shot of it a priority when we were there.
Jeff – I think it’s a successful work of architecture when it combines art and function.
Joyce – I think Bernice answered the question of what this structure is. I spent some time trying to shoot the whole bridge straight on, but seeing it from this perspective was really interesting. Glad you like!
Excellent! A very structural, linear shot; like two strong, steel arms reaching out toward the heavens.
What an amazing perspective, Ellen. Shot straight on, this could absolutely be right out of a science fiction movie!
very bauhaus! nice shot!
