I usually try to change up the subject matter on the blog each week, but I took this shot on my way home from a shoot on the West Side, hand-held – no time to put up my tripod – and in traffic. One of my favorite followers (you know who you are and thanks!) convinced me that it was such a good photograph, that I should break my rule and put it up on the blog, even though last week’s shot was a sunset as well. This fan also wants sunsets to be a theme for next year’s calendar. Any opinions?
great shot!…..i agree: a sunset calendar would be awesome!
What an amazing shot. So many things I like about this photograph – almost a microcosm of the Sun on Earth. Another “well done” for you. Yes to a sunset calendar, indeed.
I love this photo! Next year’s calendar should be evening/sunset/dusk shots. You have a beautiful collection.
I have a question…How did you get the pilot to remain exactly centered until you took the shot? Love the assortment of varied types of globes of light – the traffic lights, the car lights and the magnificent sun shining through, showing by it size and brilliance its magnitude over man-made things.
It’s a great idea. However, all sunsets (or, also, sunrises) should be over Manhattan or the five boroughs generally.
Love it, talk about the right place at the right time. And I agree, evening/sunset/dusk are some of your best.
What great timing! An amazing shot with so many different! Sensory objects. The soothing indigo sky with the plane smack in the middle of the traffic jammed block. This one is definitely one people would snatch up prints of.
Thanks. It wasn’t all that amazing timing. I stood there, jumping in and out of traffic, for about half an hour. Took several dozen shots. This one caught the plane, which made the composition for me!
I vote for the calendar!
Looking through your blog always makes me nostalgic for new york! 🙂
What a great shot. Terrific composition!
What a great shot!
Another great shot at a perfect moment in time.
This shot is so dramatic – I respond to both lighting and each person’s unique view of the world. For me the lighting can make or break a shot.
Rules are made to be broken, right? This really caught my eye but more for the traffic. It brings back many memories of living in and around NYC. That’s what great photography is all about: inspiring a feeling, triggering a memory, sparking an idea. I can just feel the impatience of the drivers struggling to get home while the sun sinks ever lower in the sky. Traffic must have been pretty slow going if you were able to get out in the street and capture this striking composition. About the calendar, how about a contest where everyone will enter suggestions for a sunset photo and the top twelve suggestions will be used for the calendar?
