What a cool and fascinating image, Ellen! What I find interesting is that each log’s history is in its rings, so these are all of different ages – kind of like life! Well done.
WOW! That’s got to be wood, but I feel like I’m looking at slices of semi-precious stones. My first thought was – agate?! I love how you always manage to capture the things many of us would overlook. You always remind me that beauty is everywhere, we just need to look for it sometimes.
Yes Bernice I thought of the Kandinsky circles when I took this photo. Even in color, though, it would be no match for his painting. The rings were brown, of course!

This closeup of cut logs reminds me of a famous painting by Kandinsky – abstraction at its best – in black and white instead of color.

I love the repetition, rhythm and slight contrast among the shapes. Just beautiful.
