Behind the Icons

In 2010 I took a photo from behind the famous Pepsi sign, “New York Icons” in LIC while construction was being done. This past week I revisited the site, which is completely overgrown with tall apartment buildings.  This is the closest I could get to the original photograph.

Great counterplay between the rigid uprights, the sweep of the lamp, which leads to iconic curlicues of the Pepsi sign. Busy yet structured. Another great one!

I love your most iconic NYC shots, and these might be right up there for me. The curve of the lettering against the familiarly beautiful skyline makes for a classic Ellen shot – and crazy how much changes in a few years! Still an awesome pic, even with the growth in the area 🙂

The colorful view vibrates with the dynamism of the great city. Great contrast between the rigid geometry of the iconic towers, and the lyricism of the cursive script.

Love this! Yes, Long Island City is teeming with new building! My children live right on the border. A very familiar view!!
