Super Moon

Did any one see the moon on Saturday night?  It was full, larger than it’s been in 11 years, and orange when it first came up.  Unfortunately I was riding in a car on my way home from a lovely dinner out and by the time I got my camera and tripod and ran down to the beach, the color was gone. But it was beautiful nonetheless.

Really does look like another planet. I saw the moon but in a blueblack sky with lots of houses on the horizon. This is spectacular from the beach with the reflection on the water and the red shadows on the land.

How surreal and wonderful! The foreground feels like I am on Mars. The Moon is like a giant eye in the sky, peering down on us all. Great photo!

Awesome and almost eerie, I agree about the Mars part especially!

It always impresses me that you are able to look at the same things as everyone else, yet somehow go beyond those things to capture the beauty and spirit that are hiding right in front our eyes. You also get extra credit for all the scrambling you do to get just the right composition and lighting. Artists can move their media around to do that; you, on the other hand, must move yourself.

“Super Moon” is a super image. I love the fact that the water and sky are shades of black and gray. The unexpected colors give extra drama and mystery to the moon and its reflection. With the scene pared down to such minimal coloration, photographic realism begins to merge with surrealism and abstract art.

I saw that moon framed by NYC skyline and it lost some of its grandeur, but your shot brought a natural beauty and sense of scale.
