This picture from the Highlands is really quite remarkable – the height and distance perspectives with the front and center tree branches, the sailboat out to sea, and the city skyline and structures – quite striking!
This is a truly spectacular photo – almost magical, ethereal. I absolutely love the lace effect of the tree against the deep silver of the sky. Well done, Ellen!
At first i thought it muse be a snowy branch against an icy sea, but of course, i realized my error. The triangular sail and negative triangle of the branches above make a striking composition against the ghostly city in the background.
It’s interesting that several of you saw ice and cold. It was a sunny and warm spring day. With a tiny bit of manipulation (I’ll never tell!) the tables were turned, and the image was dramatically changed. As Degas once said, “art is not what you see, but what you make others see”.
What a cool photo!
This is a spectacular shot. Love the black/white contrast.

Calm seas
Lovely trees
The nearby urban gray
Could be a million miles away……
Great photo, Ellen. What a striking effect and composition! The detail of NYC in the background is amazing.
Lovely image; the b/w nature of it makes it look snowy and cold – a Dr. Zhivago moment. Brava.
Another perfect photo!
Great composition and I agree with Thom on the cold.

Beautiful!

I love the canopy of white branches protecting the sailboat. Magical & Ethereal!
