Oh my god, this is so awesome! My first thought was – Ellen shared a civil war photo?! And then I realized that this must be a re-enactment!!!! What a great shot. Amazing how a camera can also be a time machine.
Ellen Goodman or Mathew Brady. 2015 or 1883, still the same unfathemable event juxtaposed in America’s beautiful hills. Without our photographers, we wouldn’t believe it!
I’m loving this photo, Ellen! Wow – Looks like an historic shot from the Ken Burns Civil War retrospective.
You could’a fooled me – reminds me of the old song “tenting tonight on the old camp grounds…”. It’s a beautiful b&w shot, and would make even Brady proud. Maybe only the chubby guy on the left is a giveaway that it’s not 1865.
Haha Bernice. I thought the same thing. The soldiers would have been rail thin from being out in the woods and in the thick of battle. (And the “chubby guy” was actually a woman :))
What a fun “throwback” shot! Never did I realize you were a documentary photographer, but I suppose it makes sense, considering you wear so many hats.
The composition of this photo is great, as well. The man at the far right seems to mirror the skinny flag pole to the left, while both frame the incredible geometry in the center of the shot.
Great one, Ellen!
Brady would be proud.
Wonderful choice making it black and white; great way to capture the spirit of the event. I can almost see you standing in the field with one of those old cameras which had a black cloth to keep the light from coming in. Great shot!
