It was an overcast, foggy, thick NYC day but the ships truly lit up the harbor!
All comments on the blog below please. Thanks.
Very neat – I like the ones with the Statue of Liberty in the background in the changing exhibition.
It feels like we’re back in the 18th century with all those sails unfurled. Lovely composition of triangles punctuating the blue sky and bluer water.
Beautiful ships with the contrasting backgrounds of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and modern downtown NJ.
These all came out great, especially with the hazy day. They almost look like ghost ships! Nicely done.
Thanks for capturing all of these sailing ships in NY harbor, Ellen! It reminds us of a time when sailing was a personal experience. To quote John Masefield’s poem “Sea Fever,” “I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and sky, and all I ask is a tall ship, and a star to steer her by…”
There’s a certain quality to these photos that make them look like paintings. It looks like time is standing still.
The fog surrounding the ships adds an aura of mystique. Beautiful photos Ellen!
These photos are the modern day Turners. Can’t believe these are photographs and not paintings. Nice shots!
I really like that you took the photo on an overcast day. That makes the shot more interesting to me. It makes you really focus on the boats. I also like the contrast between the motorboat and the sailing ships. It gives the impression of a time warp.
The composition of “Flags” is fantastic. I think it is the vertical format that does it.
Did anyone realize that the photo entitled “Attention” actually has sailors standing on the masts? What looks like yellow, red, and blue horizontal lines are men!
