Thank you all for your comments, especially about the composition of this photo. Now the process that made it possible. I found the butterfly, dead on the sidewalk, which felt so sad. Brought it home and it got me thinking how best to honor it. Having just come from photographing a sunflower farm, and having picked some fresh flowers, I thought why not place the butterfly on the flower. A black backdrop on the floor, the flowers, and the butterfly placed exactly where I wanted it, and this photographer uncomfortably sitting on the hard tile, et viola, a beautiful composition of a moment in time! And hence the title – Sunflower Still Life.
