What a wacky juxtaposition! I love the oblivious sleeper and the “real” look of the dancing couple – I had to look twice to see they were mannequins. With your eye the sleeper could have been a mannequin, and the dancers real!
What a beautiful sculpture of the dancing couple in their own world! Of course, one has to wonder about the real person also in his own world (who is not texting) but actually pondering about something…….
Every picture tells a story, story…great shot Ellen!
Great! Where was this taken? I imagine a scenario where some lovely woman comes over and asks the man to dance.
There’s an exhibition of sculpture by Seward Johnson on Broadway between 36th and 41st Streets. Fun observing people sitting in the street plazas and totally ignoring the artwork.
Hah! I love this one! Whimsical. I wasn’t sure who was real and who was a statue until I looked very closely. Awesome pairing!
Interesting juxtaposition of characters!
Since I know both the sculpture and the painting it refers to so well, I have no doubt about who’s real and who’s not. The ironic juxtaposition of the sculpted and real figures on the Broadway mall is funny. I’m not sure if the seated guy is asleep, but he does seem totally unaware and/or unimpressed by the festive figures and flowers nearby. Great narrative!
At first I didn’t realize it was a sculpture and had such a smile on my face imagining this happy couple – perhaps taking their wedding dance outside. I still have a smile on my face.
Great shot, Ellen! I have a whole different take on this photo. Our sleeping man on the chair is dreaming of being a dashing young gentlemen waltzing a beautiful lady across the floor – all on the streets of NY!
